Presumably named after a painting by 18th century painter Jacques-Louis David, Death of Marat formed as a three-piece in Arizona in 2000. Drummer and vocalist Jef Wright, bassist John Brandon, and guitarist Mike Juliano gelled from the start. Their debut release, Shattered, was released on Boulder, Colorado's Satellite Transmissions Records later that year, the band's progressive and artsy brand of prog-fueled punk was immediate from the start.
