Pianist Dom Salvador is among the most influential artists in Brazilian music history. His incorporation of jazz and R&B into traditional samba created a new sound -- funky samba. In 1964, he and drummer Dom Um Romao recorded Copa Trio. In 1965 he led the albums Salvador Trio and Rio '65 Trio (the latter with super drummer Edison Machado). Dom Salvador E Abolição released Som, Sangue E Raça in 1971. He left Brazil for New York in 1973. He cut three albums as Romao's pianist.
