b. Doretta Marano, 27 January 1928, New York City, New York, USA, d. 28 February 1968, London, England. This silver-voiced singer appeared on Broadway in Where's Charley? (1948), and was then cast as Tuptim in Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II's The King And I (1950), and was thus the singer to introduce ‘We Kiss In A Shadow' and, in duet with Larry Douglas, ‘I Have Dreamed'. After appearing in a television production of Knickerbocker Holiday (1950) and in the film Because You're Mine (1952), with Mario Lanza, she returned to Broadway.
