Over the course of the project's existence, Dream, Ivory have navigated dreamy, shoegaze-influenced atmospherics and angsty pop-punk. The California duo emerged in 2017 with a lo-fi bedroom EP that merged bittersweet dream pop and shoegaze in the tradition of major influence Beach House. After the next year's flowerhill drive EP, they continued to regularly release singles while shifting into a cleaner, more exasperated pop-punk sound by 2022.
