Melancholy post-rock outfit Ester Drang formed in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma in 1995. Early members Bryce Chambers, James McAlister, Sterling Williams, and Kyle Winner were fans of Echo & the Bunnymen, My Bloody Valentine, and Mogwai, and together they derived a lush, bittersweet sound. The band released its debut, That Is When He Turns Us Golden, on Red Crown Record Empire in 1999. After adding David Motter to the lineup, Goldenwest followed on Burnt Toast Vinyl in 2002.
