Fanta Sacko

Sacko became interested in traditional Guinean music as a child and learned to sing by listening to recordings of Sory Kandia Kouyate. She performed in a traditional style, but her subject matter was decidedly not -- she sang love songs. Traditionalists rejected her, but she became popular with the masses. Unfortunately, she found it too difficult to pursue a musical career while raising her large family, and consequently made only one recording, which she never received royalties for.
