An Italian guitarist and composer who made his primary living and renown in Paris. Originally a cellist, Carulli was able to adapt his notational devices to the six string guitar which was just coming into its own during his lifetime. At once he was the most prominent guitarist in Paris (perhaps the world) and was the contemporary of Carcassi and Sor (the latter surpassing the status of the other two).
