Owner of one of the most peculiar voices in the Latin rap scene, Fermin IV began getting involved in hip-hop music after listening to American rap groups from the 1980s. In 1994, his first band, called Prófuga de Metate, debuted with an independently produced demo. A year later, ex-Pasto Pato and ex-La Ultima de Lucas' keyboardist Toy joined him to assemble Control Machete. Soon, the Mexican threesome became a worldwide top-selling Latin rap outfit with two chart-topping albums, 1997's Mucho Barato and 1999's Artilleria Pesada Presenta.
