Few acts transitioned in the early 1980s from jazz-funk to electro. Herbie Hancock excepted, none did it with as much creative and commercial success as Freeez. Active from the tail-end of the '70s through 1985, the London-based band scored Top Ten pop hits in their native U.K. with "Southern Freeez" (1981) and "I.O.U." (1983), the latter of which also topped the U.S. club chart.
