Armed with a wide vocal range and the flexibility to be belting or breathy, Chicago native Genevieve Schatz began her singing career in 2006 with the indie rock band Company of Thieves. After touring across the U.S. opening for bands including OK Go, the Hold Steady, and Plain White T's, the band went on an indefinite hiatus in 2013. Schatz began working on her own material, collaborating with producers including Ken Caillat, Jason Gilbert, Mike Green, and Boots Ottestad, eventually relocating to Los Angeles in the process.
