George Webb

b. George Horace Webb, 8 October 1917, London, England. After playing piano in and around London, Webb was attracted by the revival movement and in 1942 formed his own traditional band. The band proved to be highly popular with British fans, including over the next few years leading lights of the UK jazz scene such as Wally Fawkes, Eddie Harvey, Owen Bryce and Humphrey Lyttelton. In 1948 Webb folded the band, several of the members forming the nucleus of Lyttelton's first band, and thereafter he made only occasional appearances as a performer.
