The Knabenchor Hannover boychoir was one of the first children's choirs in Germany to engage with the historical performance movement. The group was founded by conductor Heinz Hennig, who led it for 51 years, and it developed a distinctive sound. The Knabenchor Hannover issued major recordings of music by Bach and Heinrich Schütz that continue to gain new listeners. The choir has continued to record, and recordings led by Hennig have appeared in reissues; one of these was an album featuring Marc-Antoine Charpentier's Mass for Holy Saturday and Requiem, issued in 2024.
