Although the two musicians are aesthetically aligned, the trombonist Henry Mason should not be confused with the trumpeter of the same name. While the latter artist was a veteran of swing and New Orleans jazz groups in the '30s and '40s, trombonist Mason came along somewhat later, approaching classic jazz styles from the retroactive view of nostalgia.
