Humberto Teixeira started very early his musical studies, learning the bandolim (mandolin) and flute. Moving to Fortaleza to enroll at high-school studies at the Liceu do Ceará, began to learn music with conductor Antônio Moreira, from Orquestra Majestic and Orquestra Iracema. At that time, began to take part in Orquestra Iracema as apprentice flutist. Having composed very early his unpublished "Valsa Triste," wrote a few years later, at 13, "Miss Hermengarda," under the inspiration of his uncle Lafaiete, who succeeded Moreira as his instructor.
