Born in Tokyo in 1949, Ichiro Seki graduated from the NHK Japanese Traditional Music School in 1973. He privately studied Western compositions, his interest being in bringing traditional Japanese instruments together with Western instruments. He wrote, among other pieces, a piece for shakuhachi and harpsichord (found on his CD Contrasts) and another one for shakuhachi and female voice.
