J Noa is the alias of Dominican rapper Nohelys Jiménez. Born in San Cristóbal in 2005, she developed a fascination with urban culture from an early age, watching and listening to elder kids rapping around her neighborhood. Barely into her teens, Jiménez began performing in freestyle competitions, often being the sole female contestant -- which in turn led to tackling issues such as genre inequality and self-determination on her lyrics, which further set her apart from her local peers.
