About

Jean-François Dandrieu

Biography

French composer and harpsichordist who was next to Couperin and Rameau in influence and fame for his harpsichord compositions and playing. Dandrieu is noted for the reformulation of Pierre's early works (his uncle) in an attempt to update the music. As one of the royal organists it was among Jean-Francois' obligations to oversee the refurbishing of the organ at St. Andre des Arts. Compositions primarily included noels and sonatas for the harpsichord and were compiled in at least four different volumes. ~ Keith Johnson
