b. c. 1923, possibly Louisiana, USA. An earthily unsophisticated singer, King made some well-received recordings in the late 40s and early 50s. Among the best-known is ‘3 x 7 = 21', backed with ‘Don't Marry Too Soon', a 78 released in 1949 that became a local hit in New Orleans. She also recorded ‘Broke My Mother's Rule'/‘I'll Get It', ‘Passion Blues'/‘Keep Your Big Mouth Shut' and ‘I Love A Fellow'/‘Low Down Feeling', all in 1950 and all for Imperial Records.
