A passion for Brazilian music led Dutch singer Josee Koning to trade her career as a flight attendant for jazz lessons at the Amsterdam Conservatory in the late 1970s. Her studies at the conservatory led to a friendship with pianist Peter Schön, and the two formed the band Batida, which released three albums and performed in various countries between 1983 and 1992, including appearances at festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival.
