Inspired in equal measure by Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill, Jourden updates the neo-soul/hip-hop hybrid playbook of the ‘90s for a 21st century audience. Born in the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn to a family of West Indian heritage, Jourden Cox learned to play the piano in her home and, in time, went from learning favorite songs by ear to writing her own.
