The Jubileers -- one of the first gospel recording groups to begin moving large amounts of sides -- were led by the talented Richard Huey, who later became a Broadway performer. The group was in its heyday during the Second World War years, promoted alongside popular blues and jazz artists such as Champion Jack Dupree and Coleman Hawkins. The Jubileers also came up with material that sounds a bit like rockabilly and R&B: tracks by the group show up on compilations geared for the Saturday night dance crowd as well as Sunday morning worshipers.
