b. William Campbell, 31 May 1947, Glasgow, Scotland. The former lead singer of Marmalade began a promising solo career in 1972 with the stirring ‘Hallelujah Freedom'. Combining much of the melody of Marmalade, this soul-influenced single reached the UK Top 10. The following year similar success came with ‘Sweet Illusion'. The chart singles stopped and Campbell's direction moved towards back-room production.
