Kaisa's Machine

Kaisa's Machine is a collaborative ensemble led by Finnish bassist Kaisa Mäensivu with a sound that combines Nordic jazz traditions and harmonically adventurous New York post-bop. They debuted with 2017's In the key of K and gained wider attention with their 2023 Greenleaf recording, Taking Shape. Born in 1990 in Finland, Mäensivu studied at Helsinki's Sibelius Academy and put together an early version of Kaisa's Machine for 2017's In the key of K.
