Raised in a religious and musical household, Bishop L. Spenser Smith started his path in gospel music while he was a child. While attending Florida A&M, he was a member of the university's Marching 100 and directed the FAMU Gospel Choir. During his mid-twenties, he followed his father-in-law as the pastor of Tuscaloosa, Alabama's New Testament Church.
