Lalo Rodriguez was an award-winning salsa singer, composer, and producer from Puerto Rico best known as a progenitor of salsa romántica. At 16, he sang on Eddie Palmieri's 1974 classic The Sun of Latin Music -- the first Latin album to win a Grammy, and he worked with Machito on 1977's Fireworks album. From 1980-1989, Rodriguez issued six charting albums -- Simplemente... Lalo, Nuevamente...Lalo, El Niño, el Hombre, el Soñador, el Loco, Punto y Coma, Un Nuevo Despertar, and Sexsacional..! -- that established the salsa romántica subgenre.
