The first working unit of Jade was formed in Winnipeg, Canada, in 1982. The original line-up consisted of Roxy Lyons (vocals), Pat Belrose (guitar), Terry Rudd (bass) and Dave Samson (drums). The band initially played on the local club circuit in the absence of a genuine rock scene. They decided to relocate to Ottawa where they quickly struck a one-off album contract with the small independent label Zaphia Records.
