Biography

Lili Boulanger's musical education was supervised by her sister Nadia, and the household was frequented by Fauré, who was also an influence in her development. Although she died at a tragically early age, Lili accomplished a great deal during her short life. She attended the Paris Conservatoire for composition and won the Prix de Rome for her cantata Faust et Hélène (1913). In spite of her ill health during her time in Rome, she interrupted her musical work there to care for the families of musicians who were away at war.
