A gospel singer with a muscular voice and versatile singing style informed by genres such as R&B and rock, Lisa Knowles-Smith got her start as a child in her family's group, the Brown Singers of Memphis, Tennessee. She took over the lead as a preteen and made her first recording as a member in 1996. After releasing Experience the Evolution with the group in 2008, she sang backup for a variety of other gospel acts, including VaShawn Mitchell and James Fortune & FIYA, while continuing to perform with her family. Her solo debut release, "Great Big God," arrived in 2019.
