Venezuelan Latin rock band los Astrolabios started playing in the local club circuit in 1996 under the name of Lucky y los Astrolabios. Led by singer/songwriter Luke Grande, who used to play bagpipe at his school and later studied art at Venezuelan Universidad Central, the band came in first place after participating in the New Bands Festival in 1997. They were also voted Revelation of the Year at the Pop & Rock awards in 1998.
