Guitarist Matthew Schwandt and bassist Jeff Zuehlke were two likeminded players who found themselves in the same Minneapolis bands throughout the mid-'90s. Schwandt moved to Nashville in 1997, meeting up with guitarist Micah Horton almost immediately. The two became fast songwriting buddies, eventually putting together enough material to warrant live performances. So the two musicians drafted in Zuehlke, drummer Matt Fisher, and singer Tom Hockensmith, and in 2000 the fivesome decided to call the band Lume.
