Chicago indie rock outfit Lying in States came together with Justin Trombly (bass), Fergus Kaiser (guitar), Ben Clarke (vocals/guitar), Mark Benson (drums), and Jeremy Ohmes (keyboards) in 1999. Streamlining a quirky punk-inspired sound akin to Drive Like Jehu and the Constantines, Lying in States toured the Midwest for the next two years.
