Choral conductor Mack Wilberg discovered an interest in choral music as a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and he joined a vocal ensemble made up of fellow missionaries called New Horizons. Completing his missionary work in South Korea, Wilberg attended Brigham Young University, where he studied composition and piano. He went on to receive a master's degree from the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California, where he also earned his Ph.D. in music.
