Harpsichordist and organist Mahan Esfahani was raised in Tehran, and he received his earliest musical training from his father. He pursued musicology and history at Stanford University, and George Houle, Heather Hadlock, Elaine Thornburgh, Herbert Myers, and Adam Gilbert were among his teachers. He continued his postgraduate studies in harpsichord with Peter Watchorn, Lorenzo Ghielmi, and Zuzana Ruzickov+í.
