b. Malcolm Neville Lockyer, 5 October 1923, Greenwich, London, England, d. 28 June 1976, England. Trained as an architect, Lockyer's interest in dance music dated from the age of 12, and he played semi-professionally until called up for war service as a musician in the Royal Air Force at the age of 19. He played with Sid Phillips And His Quintet, and in 1944 he joined the Buddy Featherstonhaugh Sextet and recorded with them for Radion and HMV Records.
