Daughter of Bernardo Felix and Josefina Guereña, Mexican Maria Felix began her acting career in 1942 while playing a role alongside Jorge Negrete in a movie called El Peñon de las Animas. The talented actress and popular traditional Mexican music singer became an international movie star after participating in 1954's French Cancan, directed by Jean Renoir. Nicknamed "La Doña" after playing a star part in Doña Barbara, based on a book by Romulo Gallegos, Maria Felix ended her successful cinematographic career in the early '70s.
