In spite of her brief and tragically short career, singer and songwriter Marília Mendonça left an indelible mark in Brazilian sertanejo music. Born in 1995 in Cristianópolis (Goiás) but raised in Goiânia, Mendonça suffered poverty and deprivation throughout her childhood, but managed to find solace in music and religion.
