The traditional music of South Italy and Mediterranean Europe is preserved through the music of accordionist, ethnomusicologist, and teacher Mario Salvi. In addition to two solo albums -- Effetti Personali in 1988 and Caldera in 1997 -- Salvi has worked with several Italian traditional groups including Modena City Ramblers, Teatro Gruppo, and Terra Franca. A member of Sinti from 1981 until 1984, he developed his own sound by combining Italian folk music with elements of Balkan, French, and Irish music.
