Marjorie Whylie

Inducted into the Jamaican Jazz Hall of Fame in 1997, Marjorie Whylie has devoted her life to exploring and expanding on the musical roots of her homeland. Her compositions, which include "Mountain Women," "Ni Woman of Destiny," "I Not I," "Blood Canticles," "Drumscore," "Caribbean Canvas," "The Black Widow," and "Journeys Beyond Survival," are a pastiche of indigenous Jamaican folk, African polyrhythms, European art music, and classic jazz.
