Mondo Lava

Mondo Lava are a lo-fi psychedelic duo consisting of James Ketchum and Leon Roc Hu. Playing instruments such as guitar, Casio, and hand drums, the duo record their playfully trippy songs directly to cassette. Their music is inspired by Tropicalia, dub, and video game soundtracks, sounding equally exotic and whimsical. Nearly all of Mondo Lava's releases have been cassettes, including 2014's Parrot Head Cartridge and 2018's Ogre Heights. 2025's lush yet zoned-out Utero Dei is their most ambitious release to date.
