Originally brought together by Mute founder Daniel Miller for 2011's Mute Short Circuit Festival, the duo of Maps' James Chapman and fellow labelmate Polly Scattergood decided to continue their collaboration as On Dead Waves. With both artists releasing solo albums in 2013 -- Maps' Vicissitude and Scattergood's Arrows -- the pair finally reconvened at Chapman's home studio to start writing what would eventually become their debut album.
