Ottaviano Petrucci

Technically not a publisher, Petrucci is responsible for inventing a type-setting system that advanced the publication, printing and distribution of music to a wider audience. This process aided in the distribution, particularly, of polyphonic music. The printing process required three different imprints, one for the staff, one for the notes, and one for the text but his alignments were superb.
