Guitarist Pavel Steidl is noted for a distinctive performance style that includes expressive gestures with the hands, face, and body. Also a composer, he has a large repertory and sometimes plays 19th century period instruments.
Steidl was born in Rakovnik, west of Prague, on June 24, 1961, in what was then Czechoslovakia. He studied in Prague with Milan Zelenka and Štěpán Rak. Steidl scored a major breakthrough in 1982 with a first prize at the International Guitar Competition of Radio France in Paris, and shortly after that, he launched his professional career.
