British bass player Peter Ind became a professional musician in his early twenties, and made his way to the United States by working in the house band on the Queen Mary for three years beginning in 1949; he settled in New York City in 1951. Ind taught music and performed and recorded with pianist and composer Lennie Tristano and Tristano's disciple alto saxophonist Lee Konitz, with whom Ind worked regularly between 1954 and 1957.
