Pietro Spada

Born in 1935 in Rome, Italian pianist Pietro Spada combined performance and scholarship in unusual ways that were not always been given their due. The broadening of the keyboard repertory of the early nineteenth century beyond Beethoven and Schubert was partly the result of his efforts, and his career yielded work that as yet remains underexposed. Spada studied in Rome and Milan and appeared in Germany, Switzerland, and Belgium before finding success in collaborations with Sir John Barbirolli and other English conductors.
