Biography

Little is known about the life of Priscilla Stewart, a classic female blues singer who would also sing outside of that genre on occasion. She recorded some 25 tracks at 14 different sessions in Chicago between 1924 and 1928, most of them with pianist Jimmy Blythe, although she also worked at different times with pianists Clarence Johnson and J.H. Shayne. In "Delta Bottom Blues," a song she so-wrote with Blythe, she sings "Way down on the Delta, honey, that's where I come from...I was born in Arkansas, raised in Memphis, Tennessee," but it is not known how autobiographical the ...
