Raq Baby's Chicago roots and Atlanta home base inform a mix of drill and trap that the rapper illustrates with plainspoken boasts and themes of horror and mortality. A Chicagoan until the age of ten, Raq threw himself into rap music after his family moved south. Inspired by Lil Durk, Chief Keef, and other MCs from his birthplace, he started releasing music commercially in 2022, and the next year greatly expanded his audience with "Soldier Love," which appeared on Maniac Baby, his first project.
