The 120 players of the legendary Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra have some 1,000 recordings to their credit and are considered among the finest symphonic ensembles in the world. The orchestra was shaped by a small number of music directors who served for unusually long periods. The recording catalog of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra is vast and stretches well back into the 78 rpm era.
