Santiago Cañón Valencia

Cellist Santiago Cañón-Valencia has championed South American music during the growth phase of his career but has also appeared widely in the U.S. and beyond. He won several prizes at the 2019 International Tchaikovsky Competition in Russia. Cañón-Valencia (sometimes billed as Santiago Cañón) was born in Bogotá, Colombia, in 1995. His family was musical; his father was a clarinetist with the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra, and his sister is a violinist.
