Born in Ribble Valley, Lancashire, Stephanie Kirkham grew up on a musical diet of Joni Mitchell, the Beatles, and Johnny Cash, dreaming of becoming a songwriter. While attending Blackpool Art College, she mailed a cappella versions of some early songs to Parlophone A&M man Jamie Nelson and these eventually became the basis of her debut album.
