Biography
One of the most successful Broadway and film composer/lyricists of his generation, Stephen Schwartz is recognized for his soaring melodies and insightful, character-driven lyrics. After making his off-Broadway debut in 1971 with Godspell -- which took home the Grammy for best score from a cast album -- he went on to write the music and lyrics for such stage and screen blockbusters as Pippin (1972), Disney's Pocahontas (1995), DreamWorks' The Prince of Egypt (1998), and Broadway's Wicked (2003).
